3.1 Written quotes are valid for 30 days from the date issued, unless stated otherwise.
3.2 Quotes are based on the information and access available at the time of pricing. Where a job cannot be accurately priced in advance, we may provide an estimate subject to confirmation on site.
3.3 Prices are inclusive of VAT where applicable — 86 Electrics Ltd is not currently VAT registered, so no VAT is added to invoices.
4.1 If we agree the contract somewhere other than our registered place of business — for example at your home, over the phone, by WhatsApp, or online — this is an “off-premises contract” and you have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of agreeing to the work, without giving a reason.
4.2 If you want work to start within that 14-day period, we will ask you to confirm this in writing (e.g. by email or WhatsApp message). In that case, if you later cancel during the 14-day period, you agree to pay for the work carried out and materials ordered up to the point of cancellation.
4.3 This cancellation right does not apply to Business Customers, or to work agreed at our registered place of business.
4.4 To cancel, contact us at [email protected] stating your name, address, and the job in question.
5.1 For small jobs, payment is due on completion.
5.2 For larger jobs, or where materials must be ordered in advance (e.g. consumer units, EV chargers), we may request a deposit to cover materials before work starts, with the balance due on completion.
5.3 Invoices are issued on or after completion of the work (or the agreed stage of work).
5.4 Consumer Customers: payment is due within 7 days of the invoice date, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
5.5 Business Customers: payment is due within 30 days of the invoice date, unless a different credit arrangement is agreed in writing. We reserve the right to require payment in full before starting work, or to withdraw credit terms, at our discretion.
5.6 Any query about an invoice must be raised in writing within 7 days of the invoice date.
6.1 Consumer Customers: if payment is not received by the due date, we may charge interest on the overdue amount at 3% above the Bank of England base rate, calculated daily from the due date until payment is received, plus our reasonable costs of recovering the debt.
6.2 Business Customers: if payment is not received by the due date, we may charge interest under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998, currently 8% above the Bank of England base rate, together with statutory compensation for late payment.
7.1 Risk in any Goods passes to you on installation or delivery.
7.2 Ownership of any Goods remains with 86 Electrics Ltd until we have received payment in full. Until then, if you have not paid and the Goods remain identifiable and unfixed, we may recover them.
8.1 If, once work has started, we discover an issue that wasn't apparent when quoting (for example, unsafe existing wiring, or damaged cabling behind a wall), we will let you know before carrying out any extra work and agree a price for it — except where the issue presents an immediate safety risk, in which case we may need to make it safe first and inform you as soon as possible afterwards.
8.2 Any additional work not covered by the original quote will be charged at our standard hourly/day rate unless a fixed price is agreed.
9.1 You agree to provide reasonable access to the property and the work area, including parking where relevant, and to ensure the area is clear of obstructions.
9.2 You agree to tell us about anything relevant to the safety of the work, including suspected asbestos, structural issues, or pets that may need to be secured.
9.3 If access isn't available on the agreed date through no fault of ours, we reserve the right to charge a reasonable call-out fee for the wasted visit.
9.4 It is your responsibility to establish whether planning permission, listed building consent, or any other statutory consent or approval is required for the work — including work to a listed building, in a conservation area, or otherwise affecting the property's planning status — and to obtain any such consent before work begins. We accept no responsibility for determining whether consent is required, for advising on listed building or planning matters, or for any consequences (including enforcement action) arising from work carried out without the necessary consent.
10.1 All work is carried out in accordance with BS 7671 (the IET Wiring Regulations, 18th Edition).
10.2 As a NAPIT-registered installer, we self-certify notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations and issue the appropriate certification (e.g. Minor Works Certificate, Electrical Installation Certificate, or EICR) on completion.
11.1 We guarantee our workmanship for 12 months from the date of completion. If a fault arises from our workmanship in that period, we will return to inspect and, where appropriate, put it right at no additional charge.
11.2 This guarantee does not cover faults caused by misuse, third-party work carried out after us, normal wear and tear, or pre-existing issues with the installation that were outside the scope of the original job.
11.3 Where products or equipment we've supplied carry a manufacturer's warranty, we will pass on the benefit of that warranty to you.
12.1 We hold public liability insurance (minimum £5 million) and professional indemnity insurance (£500,000).
12.2 Except for death or personal injury caused by our negligence (which we never exclude or limit), our liability to you for any single claim is limited to the value of the contract in question.
12.3 We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as loss of income or business, except where this cannot be excluded by law.
13.1 We'll always try to keep to agreed dates, but we're not liable for delays caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control, including supplier delays, extreme weather, or access issues.
14.1 We reserve the right to decline, postpone or withdraw from a job at any time, giving as much notice as we reasonably can. This includes (but isn't limited to) illness, injury, family emergency or other circumstances outside our control, as well as cases where we reasonably believe the work would be unsafe, is outside our competence, or where access or payment terms aren't met. Any deposit paid for work not carried out will be refunded.
15.1 If you're unhappy with any aspect of our work, please contact us directly first at [email protected] so we can put things right.
15.2 If we can't resolve a complaint between us, as a NAPIT-registered installer you can raise it with NAPIT directly via their Complaints process (napit.org.uk, or Customer Services on 0345 543 0330). NAPIT will investigate impartially and, if the matter still isn't resolved, may recommend legal action or an appropriate Alternative Dispute Resolution route.
16.1 We only use your personal data to provide our services, comply with our legal and certification obligations (including registering certificates with the relevant competent person scheme), and to contact you about your job. We don't sell or share your data beyond what's needed for these purposes, in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
17.1 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
